In my portraits I focus on capturing the essence and the emotions of the individual. I am influenced by the paintings of Diego Velazquez, William Bouguereau, Rembrandt, John Singer Sargent, James Whistler, French and American Impressionists.
I have always admired Renaissance artists depicting fashion in their paintings of the Italian courts. These artists were also known for creating costumes, designing textile patterns and embroidery. Flemish Baroque artists like Rubens, VanDyck also found inspiration in clothing. VanDyck’s portraiture gave us the knowledge of the fashion worn at the court of Charles 1 in 1630’s. The most celebrated Pop Artist in the United States was Andy Warhol.
After visiting the Andy Warhol museum, and because of my love of fashion, I decided to paint the series called “Homage to Art of Fashion” starting with the 1960’s. We know that the styles, shapes, patterns and colors of the clothes and the fabrics have been influenced by art and trends of the period. Andy Warhol started his career as an illustrator for fashion magazines such as “Vogue” blending his artistic visions into his designs. Other artists blended their visions equally into their fashion styles and became some of our most famous designers we’ve had and continue to have today. This series represents some of those trends modeled by fashion icons, celebrities and super models of the period which I wanted to capture in my paintings.

Il fumo, che si innalza in una serie di volute da diet to il bicchiere di birra, è il luogo visivo e concettuale che identifica la natura dell’intera Opera “In the pub” della nostra amica artista Renata Schmidt Zahuranec. Istante di rivelazione di una sigaretta nascosta e metonimicamente diffusa a simboleggiare lo sguardo complessivo sul soggetto, sul quale, di fatto, viene concentrata un’attenzione espressamente scelta, maturata, catturata da un desiderio fotografico di riprodurre un momento che, nella normalità, passerebbe totalmente svincolato da interesse. La lettura, distratta. Il fumo, semi-celato. Il bere, estraniato dal presente ed abbandonato ad esigenze trascorse e future. In quello sguardo diventa dominante tutta la momentaneità di un vivere distaccato, che appartiene ad ognuno e che ognuno si ritaglia nella propria dimensione specifica; un vivere distaccato, appunto, che si colora dei toni caratteristici dell’abitudine, ma che non si sottrae, per ipotesi, ad adattarsi ad ogni tipo di esigenza, sostituendo i suoi elementi costitutivi, il bicchiere, la sigaretta, il giornale, laddove però l’atmosfera fondamentale non subisca mutamenti. Lo spazio, racchiuso nel taglio voluto dall’artista, concentra l’attenzione sull’atto di un vivere, in modo assorto, la propria individualità, ordinandosi in “oggetti d’uso e di scena” profondamente inseriti nell’ottica di isolamento da un contesto sociale chiaramente identificabile, quello del pub, ma, temporaneamente, accantonato. Un elogio alla solitudine? No! Piuttosto, un panegirico non roboante sulla possibilità di rendere Arte, e quindi emblema, anche il frangente più comune di una vita, e di arrestarlo nel mezzo del suo divenire costante, nel suo procedere abituale, per indicare al fruitore uno specchio in cui osservare l’importanza estetica e mediatica anche dei suoi aspetti (del fruitore) meno appariscenti.
